Tioga County Sports Report
DRYDEN - Eagles' softball notched their first win of the season on Monday with an impressive 12-hit performance and plating 23 runs to defeat Dryden on the road.
Elliana Middlebrook went the full five innings in the circle for SVEC. The eighth grader struck out eight, while only allowing three hits and one earned run to record the win.
SVEC did the bulk of their damage in the first three innings, scoring six in the first inning, followed by eight in the second and four more runs in top half of the third.
SVEC's bats really came alive in the second inning, with their first seven hitters reaching base and scoring six runs before the first out was recorded. Dryden's only run of the game also came in the inning.
To start the third inning, Olivia Potts reached base and advanced to second on an error. Maddy Ashby then singled on a fly ball to score Potts. Allison Oaks followed up with a base-hit, and Emma Neish walked to load the bases. Ryleigh Bowman put a ball in play and after an error by the shortstop Ashby scored, with the bases remaining loaded.
Jillian Holmes walked next to bring in a run and Faith Brenchley grounded into a fielder's choice, resulting in Neish being put out advancing to home. Middlebrook flied out next, but Bowman would score on an error by the catcher before the inning ended.
The Eagles plated five more runs in the top of the fifth to wrap up their first win of the 2025 season.
Bowman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scoring three runs as well. Middlebrook finished 2-for-3 on the day with three RBIs. Holmes scored two runs to go with two RBIs, and Olivia Potts drove in three runs as well. Brenchley and Ashby tallied two runs a piece, while Kelsea Swayze scored and drove in a run during the win.
"Our bats came alive early and we didn't let up," said coach Megan Friscia.
"We had a strong outing from our pitcher, and we were defensively sound."
SVEC takes the field again on Wednesday when they host Trumansburg.
