TRACK & FIELD: OFA TRACK PICKING UP SPEED THIS SEASON WITH PAIR OF WINS OVER WAVERLY (2025-04-10)

OWEGO - OFA outdoor track and field picked up a pair of solid wins on Wednesday, defeating Waverly with 11 girls scoring points, while 18 boys earned points as well.
"We thought that we had a chance to win both meets tonight, so we put the athletes in the events where they could score the most points," said coach Scott Senko.
"This win was a team effort and the athletes really stepped up and performed at their best tonight."
The girls' side for OFA bested Waverly, 66-59.
Stella Palladino clocked 12.5 to win the 100-meter dash, and ran 26.1 to win the 200-meter as well. Palladino also earned a victory in the girls' shot put, heaving 25-4.5.
Jaelyn Chrysler cruised in both the 800m and 3000m. Chrysler finished first in the 800 with 3:36.6 and won the 3000, running 11:28.
Lilly LaFever placed first in the 1500m with a time of 5:48, while Nicole Esworthy earned a win in the 400m hurdles, running 1:28.7.
Eleanora Palmer won the discus with a throw of 76-feet, 5-inches. Newcomer on the track team, Madison McEvoy placed second in the 400m, clocking 1:06.4.
For the Owego boys' team, OFA defeated Waverly, 82-59. Gavin Heath paced the River Hawks, winning the 400m in 52.3.
Brady Senko won the triple jump, leaping 36-7, while Dylan Davis finished second in both the discus and shot put. Trace Hall earned second in the high jump with 5-2.
Javan Belokur ran 5:05 to win the 1600-meters and Senko was victorious again in the 400m hurdles, running 1:06.6. Billy Huddleston won the 200m in 24.8, while Magavin Allen placed second with 2:12.5 in the 800.
Evan Wasielewski won the 110 hurdles in 17.1 and Jaeden King ran 11.4 to win the 100-meter dash.
The OFA boys' 400-meter relay team ran 46.2. The relay consisted of Huddleston, Llewellyn, Samuelson, and King. The team of Belokur, Castro, Chrysler, and Heath ran 3:45.1 in the 1600m relay.
"I am so proud of the performances tonight. We asked some kids to try new events and they really stepped up," said coach Senko.
"Gavin Heath is emerging as one of the top 400m runners in the section and our boys' relay teams are looking very tough. We expect to see a lot of success in the future from this group.
"The hard work that the athletes are putting in is paying off and we are looking forward to seeing that progress continue this weekend at the Square Deal Invitational," added Senko.
