IAC SOFTBALL: CARDINALS BOUNCE BACK WITH BIG WIN OVER GROTON IN FIVE INNINGS (2025-04-09)

NEWARK VALLEY - Abby Debolt hit her first varsity home run in a big bounce back victory for the Cardinals, defeating Groton, 17-5.
"Today was great. We had great energy and hit the ball really well," said coach Val Fischer.
"Everyone contributed and everyone did their job that they were asked to do. I am really proud of them."
Newark Valley jumped on Groton early with five runs in the first inning, one of which was a Debolt home run.
The Cardinals tacked on five more in the second and plated four in the third. Newark Valley scored during every inning of Wednesday's contest, bringing home a run in the fourth and two more to end the game in the fifth.
On top of going 2-for-3 with a homer, Debolt pitched five innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out eight.
Lilly Cornell had a big game, going 3-for-4 with a triple. Kaitlyn Keith was perfect from the plate, batting 4-for-4 and driving in three runs.
Hattie Hines and Maddy Noble both went 2-for-4. Hines drove in three runs as well. Rebecca Thompson was a perfect 2-for-2 and scored twice, while Haven Aylesworth and Laura Ludwig each recorded an RBI.
