IAC TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY HOSTS FIRST MEET OF THE SEASON (2025-04-08)

NEWARK VALLEY - Cardinals' track and field played host Monday evening to three other IAC schools, including Thomas Edison, Trumansburg and Whitney Point, in their first home meet of the spring.

Newark Valley's boys' team tied Edison, while the girls' side defeated Edison, 84.33 - 50.67. The Cardinals' picked up another head-to-head over the Whitney Point boys' team, 90.5 - 45.5, with the girls' also taking their matchup with the Golden Eagles, 98-36. 

Trumansburg, however, swept the Cardinals. The Blue Raiders totaled 92 team points on the boys' side, to Newark Valley's 47. For the girls' the Cardinals fell 73-65.

GIRLS RESULTS
Newark Valley placed second in the 4x800m with a 12:24. Abigail Escalante took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.8, while Brooke Illsley ran a 5:57.4 in the 1500m, placing second. Malerie Gregrow grabbed third, running 6:33.3.

Iris McCloskey and Peyton Rhodes went two-three in that order for the 400m event. McCloskey clocked 1:05.1 and Rhodes ran 1:21.1.

Emily Laporte won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:15.9. Escalante took third in the event, running 1:35.8. Olivia Vaughn grabbed second in the 800m with a 3:00.2 and Leah Lansing placed third with a 3:03.9 finishing time.

Bella King won the shot put, heaving a best for the day of 25-9.5. King placed first in the discus as well, with a toss of 76-6. Olivia Vaughn finished second in the long jump, leaping 12-11 and Olivia Webb went 4-feet, four-inches in the high jump.

Laporte and Lansing went one-two in the triple jump, while Elle Webb placed 4th, jumping 26-4.

Illsley ran a 12:58.7 for second place in the 3000m event.

BOYS' RESULTS
Elijah Williams picked up a victory in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.8, as well as a win in the 400m, running 55.0. Zion King sprinted 12.3 for a fourth place finish in the 100-meter dash. 

Jackson Hoover won the 800m with a time of 2:19.2, and Marcos Escalante finished second in the boys' 1600-meter, clocking 5:01.3. Escalante went 12:15.3 in the 3200, good enough for a fourth place finish in the event.

Zion King won the triple jump recording a 37-6.5 best of the day. King leaped 17-9.5 for second place in the long jump, and Logan Rhodes took third at 16-9.5 in the event.

Newark Valley's Jack Blomberg earned a third place finish in the shot put with a heave of 35-feet, nine-inches. Blomberg also tossed the discus 88-3, good enough for fourth place.

John Slaughter jumped 4-feet, 10-inches in the hight jump for third.

Newark Valley will be on the track again on April 10th at Marathon.
