OWEGO - OFA flag football put 30-plus on the board for their second straight game, taking care of Johnson City, 31-15, on a crisp April night at Christy J. Valvo Stadium.

Johnson City tried to assert themselves early with the first possession, moving the ball down field and into red zone territory. The stingy River Hawks' defense held its ground though, forcing a turnover on downs without any damage done.

Quarterback, Kylie Grippen and company came out on offense and quickly went to work. OFA moved its way down the field methodically, before Grippen hit Lexi Herceg on a touchdown pass at the pylon for the go ahead score. After a failed extra point conversion, OFA lead 6-0 with 12:49 left in the first half.

The Wildcats tried to replicate some of their earlier success on the next drive, but Bella Silvestri intercepted a pass to put the River Hawks right back on the offensive.

OFA was unable to put anything together on their second possession, but the defense did its job  again by forcing another Johnson City turnover on downs.

With 2:13 left in the half, Grippen found senior, Olivia Dodge who made a series of nice moves to get in for OFA's second score.

Dodge came right back on defense with a pick-six to tack on one more Owego Touchdown to end the first half and keep the River Hawks in front, 19-0 at the break.

The River Hawks picked up where they left off to start the second half. Grippen completed a strike to Dodge over the middle to move the chains. Next, Grippen hit Herceg, who then scampered down the sideline and inside the Johnson City 20-yard line. The Wildcats tightened up on defense, however, and forced the Owego drive to stall.

Once again it was up to the OFA defense to hold. This time it was Kylie Craven intercepting a pass and returning it back inside Wildcat territory. Silvestri would take it the rest of the way for the game's first rushing touchdown of the night. The failed extra point attempt brought the score to 25-0.

Johnson City found their first points of the night on the following possesion with a 65-yard touchdown reception at the 13:21 mark of the second half.

Owego responded by putting the game out of reach on a long scoring drive that resulted in the second Grippen to Dodge touchdown combination for the evening. Dodge made the catch under blanket coverage in a true highlight real play.

The Wildcats put one more score on the board as time in the game expired, but it was too little, too late. Owego notches its second win of the season, 31-15.

"Johnson City is a very good and athletic team. I thought we started off a little sloppy, but we regrouped well and finished the game on a good note," coach Rusty Virkler commented.

Olivia Dodge was the star of the show, pulling in four balls for 36-yards and two TDs. Dodge had an interception for a touchdown on the defensive side as well. Kylie Grippen threw for 139 yards to go with three touchdown passes. Silvestri had a nice night on the ground, rushing for 61-yards and one score. Herceg hauled in a touchdown catch along with 28-yards receiving, while Kayla Newman and Jaelynne Lovell each caught a pass.

Defensively, Dodge, Silvestri and Craven each had a pick. Keira Henry tallied three flags pulled, while Lexi Cheeseman and Leah Clark both logged a QB pressure.

OFA flag will host Chenango Forks in their next contest on Friday.
