IAC SOFTBALL: NEWARK VALLEY NOW 1-1 WITH TOUGH LOSS TO MORAVIA (2025-04-02)

NEWARK VALLEY - Cardinals' softball moved to .500 on the season after suffering their first loss of the early spring to Moravia, 22-3.
Newark Valley kept things close in the early going. The Cardinals tied the game at one a piece in the bottom of the first. Hattie Hines hit into a fielder's choice, but advanced to second on a Kaitlyn Keith ground ball. Hines then moved to third and scored after an error at third base.
The Blue Devils got three back in the second inning, and after a scoreless third, Moravia plated two more runs in the top of the fourth.
In the home half of the fourth, the Cardinals' responded with two runs of their own. Abby Debolt lead off the inning with a single and stole second during the next two at-bats. Debolt advanced to third on a passed ball. Maddy Noble who drew a walk, advanced to second on the same passed ball.
Rebecca Thompson stepped to the plate next and popped one up, but reached on an error that scored both Debolt and Noble to make it 6-3, still in favor of Moravia.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, a seven-run fifth, followed by a nine-run sixth, put the game away 22-3.
The Cardinals' had two hits for the afternoon, coming from Abby Debolt and Kailyn Harvey.
Newark Valley softball will try to get back on track against Union Springs this Thursday.
