IAC TRACK & FIELD: SVE & CANDOR COMPETE IN NON-SCORING EXHIBITION MEET (16 PHOTOS) (2025-04-01)

VAN ETTEN - Both Spencer-Van Etten and Candor track and field teams' took part in an exhibition event Monday evening in preparation for the start of the spring season.

The five-team, non-scoring meet was held at SVE's home track as an opportunity to get athletes geared up and an idea of where they stand heading into the year.

IAC schools taking part in the tune-up with the Coyotes and Panthers were Moravia, Marathon and Odessa-Montour.

Some notable times on the girls' side were Candor's 4x100m team, finishing with a solid 1:01.2. Candor's Emma Haynes ran a 3:01.3 in the 800m and SVE's Kendall Gentile ran a 3:08.1 in the event as well.

In the shot put, SVE's Aubrey Catablan heaved one 24-3.5. The Panthers' Madelyn Ellison recorded 3-8 in the high jump, Ellison also ran well in the 1500 and 3000 meters. 

SVE's Kaylee Kastenhuber had a personal best of 97-feet, 1-inch to win the girls' discus event.

Candor's Claire Rollins sprinted a 13.7 in the 100-meter dash and ran a 29.7 in the 200. 

"The kids did a really nice job. They were focused and had a good mindset going into the meet," said SVE girls' coach Kyle Holmes.

"We have some things to work on, but I was pleased with their attitude, sportsmanship, and willingness to get out there and compete. We’re looking forward to seeing how everyone continues to improve and are proud of them for how they did in the first meet."

For the boys' Karson Kenville ran a 29.7 in the 110 hurdles for SVE, and Candor's Charlie Hilbert recorded an impressive 59.6 in the 400m.

The Coyotes' Rylan Cruz threw 27-1 in shot put and SVE's Chase Whitmarsh tossed a 102-6 in the discus for his best of the day. SVE's Zachary Paucke jumped 18-2.5 in the long jump.

"I thought the boys showed a lot of promise for the upcoming season both on the track and in the field," SVE boys' coach, Ryan Holmes commented.

"It was nice to have a larger group of teams to compete against for our first meet of the season. We have plenty of things to improve but I was proud of the team not only for their performances in their events but also for their help in making the meet run smoothly."

SVE and Candor will both compete in another exhibition event on Thursday at Groton.
