SVEC SOFTBALL: EAGLES FALL SHORT ON THE ROAD AT OXFORD (2025-03-31)

Tioga County Sports Report
OXFORD - SVEC softball opened the spring season Monday with a tough loss on the road to Oxford, 10-7.

The opening day loss came despite Jillian Holmes hitting two SVEC dingers, and the Eagles racking up more hits than the Blackhawks.

Holmes went deep in the first and along with Olivia Potts, reaching home to score, gave SVEC the early 2-0 lead.

In the home half of the inning, the Blackhawks went ahead after a run scored off an error, followed by a double driving in two more.

Two more runs crossed home in the second inning for Oxford, but SVEC responded and tied the game up in the third with solo shots from both Holmes and Faith Brenchley. Katelyn Klym stole third and home to knot things up at 5-5 though three innings.

Three more runs crossed the plate in the fourth for Oxford. The Blackhawks added another in the fifth, before scoring their final run of the game due to a fielder's choice in the home portion of the sixth to pull ahead, 10-5.

The Eagles found their final two runs of the evening in the top part of the seventh. Kaidince Root singled to begin the inning and scored after a Brenchley triple. Brenchley reached home next, following an error on a Klym fly ball.

Holmes went 3-for-4 with two home runs. Brenchley finished the night, 2-for-4 and two runs scored. Emma Neish had two hits, while Klym, Root and Potts each added a base knock as well.

Kelsea Swayze went six innings, striking out two in the 10-7 loss.

SVEC softball will take the diamond again on Wednesday, when they host Lansing.
