Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Candor sophomore Emma Makie was a double-double machine this season, stepping into the void created by the loss of junior standout Nicola Soper, and leading the Coyotes to a 14-5 season. She is the All-Tioga County Girls Basketball "Player of the Year."

Owego freshman Jenna McEvoy is the All-Tioga County "Newcomer of the Year," while Waverly sophomore Makenzie Olmsted is the "Defensive Player of the Year," and Waverly's Bob Kelly is the "Coach of the Year."

Makie, an athletic all-around player, posted 14 double-doubles — nearly averaging a double-double — and knocked down a school-record 54 3-pointers.

Makie averaged 19 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.9 steals per game. She also shot 75 percent from the free-throw line.

Jenna McEvoy made a big impact in her first varsity season — knocking down 3-pointers and contributing on the boards.

She averaged 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.9 steals, and 2.9 deflections. She knocked down 33 3-pointers, and took four offensive charges.

Olmsted, a fiery competitor who has a non-stop motor, was consistently tasked with guarding the opposition's best guard and sticks to them like lint to a new suit. She was a key cog in Waverly's press that produced a lot of points this season.

Olmsted averaged 3 steals and 2 deflections per game, to go along with 3 points and 4 rebounds per game.

Bob Kelly has a couple state titles under his belt during his long coaching career, but this year may have been one of his best coaching jobs.

Kelly used his patented pressure defense to create scoring opportunities throughout the season, and directed his team to a 16-4 season, with three losses coming to Chenango Forks, which reached the state semifinals.

Waverly beat Forks in their first meeting of the season, but lost to the Blue Devils in the Section IV, Class B semifinals.
