SVEC SOFTBALL: EAGLES TO LEAN ON STRONG INFIELD HEADING INTO 2025 SEASON (2025-03-19)

SPENCER - Spencer-Van Etten/Candor softball was outside on the diamond for a rare, but beautiful late March practice Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles are looking to remain competitive this year in the IAC South Large School division, after coming off a solid 2024.
The team spent the practice shoring up fundamentals in both the infield and outfield, as well as working on their base running.
This year's softball season didn't quite get enough athletes to field both a JV and varsity team, so co-coaches Megan Friscia and Shelia Bowman will need some of their younger players to step up in 2025.
"We didn't have enough for two teams this year, so we are a bit on the younger side, but I am very confident in our younger players," coach Friscia remarked.
One of the biggest departures SVEC will have to overcome is the loss of five-year starting catcher and multiple time league MVP, Raegan Sudnikovich. The rest of the infield this season should provide a spark, however, and be a key strength as the season begins.
"Our key returners are third baseman Jillian Holmes, shortstop Faith Brenchley, and first baseman Katelyn Klym. I think some of our strengths will definitely be our fielding. We have a solid infield. Enough to lead the younger players who are coming up through," added Friscia.
Spencer-Van Etten/Candor softball will begin regular season play at Oxford on March 31.
