IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANDOR'S MAKIE NAMED IAC SOUTH SMALL SCHOOL MVP; FIVE TEAMMATES ALSO HONORED (2025-03-15)

Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR — Candor sophomore Emmi Makie was named the IAC South Small School Most Valuable Player, and five of her teammates, including first-seamers junior Hazel Ray and sophomore Claire Rollins, also earned recognition in recent voting by the division's coaches.

Sophomore Megan Williamson was named to the second team, while juniors Shawna Conklin and Nicola Soper received honorable mention recognition.

Makie, an athletic all-around player, posted 14 double-doubles — nearly averaging a double-double — and knocked down a school-record 54 3-pointers.

Makie averaged 19 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.9 steals per game. She also shot 75 percent from the free-throw line.

FIRST TEAM
Claire Rollins, sophomore, Candor:
A consistent performer for the Coyotes, Rollins averaged 9.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3.2 steals per game.

Hazel Ray, junior, Candor: Ray, who contributed more and more as the season progressed, averaged 6.2 points, 10 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. She had four double-doubles on the season.

Also named to the first team were: O-M freshman Leah Antes and O-M sophomore Evvie Zinger.

SECOND TEAM
Megan Williamson, sophomore, Candor:
A fiery competitor, Williamson averaged 10 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 2.3 assists per game.

Also named to the second team were: S-VE senior Faith Brenchley and junior Lauren Gillette, Newfield sophomore Egypt Smith-Henderson, and O-M sophomore Brooklynn Thompson.

Honorable Mention
Shawna Conklin, junior, Candor:
Conklin, who became a force in the paint late in the season, averaged 2.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game.

Nicola Soper, junior, Candor:
Soper, who had an incredible start to the season before a knee injury sidelined her after five games, averaged 8.8 points, 18 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. She had three double-doubles.

Also receiving honorable mention recognition: Newfield's Emily Taylor, O-M's Vanessa Wood, and S-VE's Kaidince Root.
