IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: COFFIN, BIGELOW LEAD NV PAST T-BURG (2019-01-18)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY - Trumansburg put up a dozen points in each of the first three quarters, but that wouldn't be nearly enough to overtake Newark Valley, which put together a solid team effort to chalk up an 83-53 IAC crossover victory here Friday.
"The boys played aggressive and tough defense all game long. They made ball handlers work hard. They got tips from behind. They got into passing lanes to get deflections and steals," said NV head coach Scott Stratton. "And then, just as importantly, they turned that defense into transition offense."
Kyle Coffin had his typical big game, pumping out 38 points, which included a trio of 3-pointers.
"Even though Kyle was high scorer, he was first and foremost a creator for us out on the floor. He created for himself, but he also created opportunities just as equally for his teammates. I think this team is at its best when he plays the game with that mindset."
Meanwhile, Ethan Bigelow outdid his teammate from beyond the arc, draining five treys and piling up 19 points.
"We've been waiting for Ethan Bigelow to have a break-out game and tonight was his night, and on his birthday no less."
Jason Graham and Donavin Beebe added eight points apiece, and Andrew Obregon contributed five more.
