Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY - The STAC Wrestling Championship take center stage today. There is also a heavy slate of basketball games, seven to be exact, and an indoor track meet.
WRESTLINGOwego at STAC championships at Johnson City, 5 p.m.: Cam Bundy (170 pounds) is the Indians' lone top seed for the league tournament, which should be competitive with the likes of Chenango Forks, Norwich, Corning, Elmira and Horseheads involved. Matt Laubach (99) is seeded third while Avery Middendorf (126), Austin Culver (152) and James Bundy (182) have drawn the No. 4 spots.
BOYS BASKETBALL
S-VE at Marathon, 5:30 p.m. JV start: It's time for more crossover clashes for these two divisional contenders. The Panthers are coming off a 50-38 loss to Newfield and are tied atop the IAC South Small School while Marathon sits a half-game behind Moravia in the North Small School after falling to Groton, 67-52.
Trumansburg (3-8) at Newark Valley (5-9), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Cardinals turned back Waverly, 69-55, in their last outing while Trumansburg lost to Whitney Point, 48-40.
Union Springs (6-6) at Candor (7-8), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Indians made an amazing comeback against Tioga, but fell just a bit shy, 62-61. Union Springs was thumped by Moravia, 75-38.
GIRLS BASKETBALLJohnson City at Owego, 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Indians are looking to improve to 14-0 and won the previous meeting between the two in mid-December, 66-50.
Candor at Union Springs, 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Indians are coming off a 39-33 win over Tioga.
Marathon at S-VE, 6 p.m. JV start: The Panthers have a tough task in Marathon, which is vying for the IAC North Small School title.
Newark Valley at Trumansburg, 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Cardinals fell to unbeaten Waverly, 58-35, in their most recent game.
