IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: EARLY DEFICIT TOO MUCH FOR CANDOR TO OVERCOME (8 PHOTOS) (2018-01-15)

CANDOR - Candor fell into a hole too deep to climb out of, although the Indians nearly pulled it off in a 62-61 IAC South Small School loss to rival Tioga here Tuesday.

Trailing 39-21 at halftime, the Indians outscored Tioga 22-11 in the third quarter behind nine points from Shawn Watson and six more by Kevin Cotton.

Cotton added five more in the fourth quarter and Marcus Rypkema contributed six points, but Candor's comeback effort was thwarted by a pair of 3-pointers Tioga's Derek Barto and four free throws late in the game.

The Tigers had a 22-11 run of their own, this one in the opening period, as Pierce Hendershot pumped out 10 points and Sam Taylor sank a pair of threes.

Thomas Cook scored six points in the second period and Hendershot added five more.

Watson scored a game-high 18 points, which included five treys. Cotton contributed 13 points, and Rypkema Thomas added eight apiece.

Hendershot paced the Tigers with with 17 points and went 10-for-11 at the stripe. Cook added 12 points, Taylor and Barto had 11 apiece, and Lucas Klossner added nine.

Candor (7-8) hosts Union Springs Friday while Tioga (7-7) hosts Groton.
