SECTION IV WRESTLING: NORWICH RALLIES PAST OWEGO AT DUAL MEET CHAMPIONSHIP (2019-01-15)

WALTON, N.Y. - Andrew Laubach and Kaden Russell recorded falls to give Owego an early lead into the quarterfinals of the Section IV Division II Dual Meet Championship here Tuesday.

Unfortunately for the Indians, Norwich had some solid wrestlers at the end of its lineup and rallied for a 40-33 quarterfinal victory.

With the Purple Tornado trailing, 33-17, returning state champion Dante Geislinger accepted a forfeit at 106 pounds to start a four-bout win streak.

Mason Edwards pinned Owen Titus in 2:33 at 113 to make it 33-29.

Next up was Andrew Brown and he pinned the Indians' Jacob Morris in 1:24 to close put Norwich ahead, 35-33.

In the final bout of the match, Nick Glanville scored a 15-0 technical fall over Hunter Martin with four seconds remain in their 126-pound bout.

Norwich opened the match with a win at 132 as Joey Marvin downed Avery Middendorf, 10-3.

The next two bouts went Owego's way as Andrew Laubach decked Isaiah Caballero in 3:27 at 138 and Russell dispatched Ashton Jenkins in 1:19 at 145, giving the Indians a 12-3 lead.

At 152, Norwich's Keegan Wright scored a third-period reversal to edge Austin Culver, 2-0, and cut the lead to 12-6, and a forfeit to Mikey Squires at 160 tied the match at 12.

The Indians went up 15-12 when Cam Bundy rode a pair of takedowns to a 5-0 win over Dakota Powers at 170.

James Bundy (182) put Owego back in front, 18-11 (Norwich had a team point deducted), with a 6-4 overtime victory against Angel Francis. Bundy trailed, 3-1, heading into the third period, but picked up an escape and a penalty points to send the bout into OT.

Tyler Benjamin pinned Dakota Hall in 2:40 at 195 and Mike Bridge received a forfeit at 220, giving Owego a 30-11 advantage.

Tyler Rice, Norwich's 285-pound standout, would pick up six points with a pin over Cooper Cantella in 1:06 and the score was 30-17.

Matt Laubach would post the final Owego win of the evening, rolling from a 2-0 deficit to decision Max Morris, 5-2.

Owego next competes in the STAC championships Friday and Saturday at Johnson City.
