IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANDOR TURNS AWAY TIOGA (2019-01-15)

TIOGA CENTER - Candor scored off the tip and then held off Tioga, 39-33, in a physical IAC South Small School game here Tuesday night.

In the first period, Braelyn Hornick, who finished the game with a double-double, scored six points to give Candor a 15-12 lead while Wood matched that number for the Tigers.

Tioga managed just one field goal in the second quarter as the Indians built a 24-16 halftime lead. The Tigers outscored Candor, 7-5, in the third quarter.

The Tigers' Eve Wood put up 10 of her game-high 14 points in the second half as Tioga cut into Candor's lead, but the Indians, who were only 3-of-12 foul shooting in the fourth quarter, were able to possess the ball enough to avoid further damage.

Hornick scored 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. She also had three steals and two assists. Searra Allen contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and five steals; Jennah Kareem had eight points and nine rebounds; Paedyn Whitmore added five points; and Kilie Streeter had four points, five rebounds and three steals.

Wood's totals included a trio of 3-pointers, while Giovanna Rossi had seven points and Olivia Ayres added six points.

On Friday, Candor (4-8) head to Union Springs while Tioga (3-10) visits Groton.
