Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY - Wrestling is in the spotlight this evening with two Tioga County teams competing in the Section IV Division II Dual Meet Championship.
However, the hardwoods can't be overlooked as the Newark Valley girls get another crack at Waverly and the Candor-Tioga rivalries heats up again.
WRESTLINGSection IV Duals: Owego vs. Norwich at Walton, 5 p.m.: The Indians drew the sixth seed and face defending champion Norwich, the No. 3 seed. The winner faces Windsor in the semifinals. Tioga is the top seed.
GIRLS BASKETBALLNewark Valley (11-2, 4-2) at Waverly (11-0, 6-0), 5:30 p.m. JV start: When the two teams met in the season opener, the Wolverines won, 49-46.
Candor (3-8, 2-4) at Tioga (3-9, 1-5), 6 p.m. JV start: The Indians ruled in the season opener, 55-28.
Newfield (11-1, 7-0) at S-VE (3-8, 1-5), 6 p.m. JV start: The Trojans won their first meeting, 63-37.
Owego (12-0) at Binghamton (7-5), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The 6th-ranked Indians are looking to make it a baker's dozen.
BOWLINGCandor at Newark Valley, 4 p.m.: The Indian girls are in first place in the IAC Small School division while NV's boys currently sit third in a tight battle in the IAC Large School ranks.
BOYS BASKETBALLS-VE (10-0, 4-0) at Newfield (6-6, 3-1), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Panthers won a thriller in their first confrontation.
Tioga (6-7, 1-3) at Candor (7-7, 1-3), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Indians won their previous clash, 53-47.
Waverly (5-6, 3-1) at Newark Valley (4-9, 1-3), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Wolverines prevailed in the season opener, but have since lost standout Scott Woodring for the season due to an injury.
BOYS SWIMMINGNorwich (1-5) at Owego (0-5), 4 p.m. The Indians finally face an opponent with a roster size more similar to their own. The PurpleTornado have 13 swimmers while Owego has eight.
