STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO IMPROVES TO 12-0 (2019-01-11)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO - A 22-4 burst in the opening quarter set the tone for Owego's 63-28 STAC victory over Corning here Friday.

"We were able to control the tempo and pace of the game, turning defensive steals and rebounds into transition baskets," said Owego head coach Luke McEvoy. "We wanted to get out early and beat their defense up the floor, before they could set into their zone.

"The girls did an excellent job of locating open teammates and running the floor. We didn't shoot particularly well from the field all night, so it was good to get the looks around the basket."

A 17-9 second quarter surge would give the Indians a solid 39-13 halftime lead.

"The second half was a great opportunity to mix and match some different lineups and get some reserves some valuable game time," said McEvoy.

Evee Coleman scored 21 points on 10-for-12 shooting efficiency and made it a double-double with 14 rebound and four blocks.

Kaci Donovan added 20 points on 7-for-13 field goal and 6-for-8  free throw shooting. She also had three assists, seven steals and six boards.

Anna Felice had 10 points, went 5-for-8 at the stripe, dished out four assists and had three steals.

Fisher contributed five points and made all three free throw attempts.

Corning was led by Kenna Newman with 11 points and Gabrielle Stalter with seven.

Owego (12-0) returns to action Tuesday at Binghamton.
