IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE OFF TO 9-0 START (2019-01-08)

SPENCER - James Sutherlin had the hot hands Tuesday night as 18th-ranked S-VE posted a 68-42 IAC crossover romp against Union Springs.

The sophomore guard pumped out a game-high 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and snagged four steals as the Panthers pushed their record to 9-0 overall.

S-VE doubled up the Wolves in the opening period, 18-9, as six different Panthers found their way onto the scoreboard.  

The defense held Union Springs to one Ryan Bailey 3-pointer - he had five on the night - in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, Sutherlin netted nine of 12 second-quarter points for the Panthers as they built a 30-12 halftime advantage.

Ben VanGalder notched his second trey of the game in the third period, and Sutherlin and Matthew Merrick added one each in the fourth.

VanGalder contributed 10 points and three steals to the win. Nathan Mack added 12 points and six boards; Noah Mack had nine points, eight boards and six assists; Wilson Cooper added eight points and Matthew Byrne dished out six assists.

Bailey ended up with 17 points for the Wolves (5-5).

S-VE heads to Groton Friday.
