THE WEEK AHEAD: WINTER SEASON BACK IN FULL SWING (2019-01-06)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA  COUNTY — The winter season moves back into full swing this week. There are no events on Monday’s schedule, but Tuesday is packed full of excitement with six basketball games and three bowling matches.

IAC basketball crossover games are the order of the day Tuesday and Friday. The South boys will host Tuesday’s clashes while the South girls are at home in Friday’s contests.

Bowling is back at it Tuesday and Thursday, and wrestling dual meets are also back with three IAC Division I clashes on Wednesday.

Following are some, but not all, of this week’s top clashes. (A complete listing of all events for the week can be found on the school pages.)

TUESDAY (9)
• Candor will put its 6-6 record up against North division power Moravia (8-2), which is a perennial Class C contender.

• S-VE (8-0) looks to remain unbeaten against Union Springs.

WEDNESDAY (4)
• Newark Valley bowling hosts Notre Dame at Cardinal Lanes.

• SVEC (7-6, 2-0) hosts Dryden (7-4, 1-1) in a key IAC Division I clash.

THURSDAY (4)
• Class B Owego boys basketball (8-1) hosts Class AA Corning (2-6).

FRIDAY (8)
• Owego will send some of its wrestlers to the Eastern States Classic.

• Newark Valley girls basketball (9-2) entertains Whitney Point.

SATURDAY (2)
• Owego will have wrestlers competing at Eastern States and the Phoenix tournament.
