IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANDOR RALLY FALLS SHORT AGAINST WG (2019-01-05)
Tioga County Sports ReportCANDOR - Candor rallied late, but came away on the short end of a 35-30 an IAC JV girls clash with Watkins Glen Friday.
After starting the game in a 10-0 hole, the Indians climbed back to trail Watkins by only two with over a minute to go.
Down 11-2 after the first quarter, Candor outscored the Senecas in each of the middle quarters. A pair of Pearl Ricardo 3-pointers in the second gave the Indians a 10-9 edge to cut the Watkins lead to eight entering the half.
Candor came out to a 10-6 advantage in third on the strength of Shelby Swartz's eight points.
Watkins was able to add one to their lead by winning the fourth quarter, 9-8.
The Indians were led by Swartz's 13 points, which included two threes and 5-of 6-shooting from the foul line. Swartz finished with a double-double, also grabbing 11 rebounds, she also had a pair of blocks. Ricardo chipped in eight points with two threes. Meckenzie Marsh added seven points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Candor's scoring was rounded out by Olivia Parillo's lone bucket. She also had five rebounds and four blocks.
