NEWARK VALLEY — Will Craparo, Brandon Eynon and Ryan Rhodes recorded three hits apiece to lead Newark Valley to a 9-4 victory over Dryden in IAC baseball action Friday.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning on singles by Craparo, Eynon, Rhodes and Tim Wojtysiak, and a double from Josh Karp to take a 4-2 lead.

The Purple Lions rallied to tie the game in the second, but NV got those two runs back in the home half of the inning on a double from Craparo, and singles from Eynon and Rhodes.

Neither team could plate a run until the bottom of the sixth inning when Craparo and Eynon singled, and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, then Rhodes would drive them both in with a double to left field. Rhodes scored on a Karp single to secure the 9-4 final.

Rhodes scored twice and drove in five runs with his 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while Craparo and Eynon both went 3-for-3 with three runs. Eynon added one RBI as well. Karp was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI, and Wojtysiak was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Rhodes also had three stolen bases, Karp swiped two, and Craparo and Eynon tacked on one theft apiece.

Karp earned the win, giving up three earned runs while striking out four and scattering three hits and nine walks in 4 ⅓ innings. Rhodes struck out four, and gave up one hit and one walk in ½ innings and Gabe Merrill fanned three and allowed one hit and one walk in one inning.

NV (6-3) hosts Newfield Saturday at 10 a.m.
