(CORRECTED) 2018 VOLLEYBALL WRAP-UP: CANDOR COMPLETES 'INCREDIBLE SEASON' (2018-12-10)

Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR - Candor emerged a son of the strongest teams in Section IV this past season, beating some of the top Class C and D teams around during a 19-0 run.

It turned out to be "an incredible season with many moments of growth and excitement," head coach Pam Quinlan said. "The team played well together and strove to make themselves and their
teammates better every day."

The Indians went 17-0 in the IAC and 19-0 overall. They ended perennial powerhouse Tioga's 87-match regular-season win streak, and beat the Tigers a second time as well. Candor also took two thrilling 5-set victories over eventual Section IV Class C champion Waverly.

Quinlan noted that one of the highlights of then team's season was "playing well against teams that we have struggled with in the past.

Also on Candor's list of highlights - winning the IAC South Small School division and the IAC Small School championships.

She also felt the team posted an exceptional performance against Bainbridge-Guildford, which went on to win its second consecutive Class D state title.

"I thought the team played exceptionally well when we played Bainbridge-Guildford in the sectional semifinals," she said. "They are a strong program and we were able to maintain a high level of play against them."

Sophomore setter Braelyn Hornick would be named the division co-MVP, sharing the honor with Tioga's Bri Rossi. Also making the all-star first team were junior middle hitter Jennah Kareem, middle hitter freshman Shelby Swartz, junior outside hitter Kori Strong and sophomore outside hitter Megan Henry. Making the second team were junior right side Kailyn Edwards and senior libero Jenna Huizinga.

Hornick and Kareem went on to be named to the New York Volleyball Coaches Association third team and fourth team, respectively.
