IAC WRESTLING: SVEC GOES 2-5 AT VALLEY DUALS (2018-12-09)
Tioga County Sports ReportUTICA, N.Y. - SVEC competed in the two day Central Valley Duals Friday and Saturday. Facing a field which included two of the state's top-ranked teams, the Eagles posted a 2-5 record.
In the first round SVEC defeated Lowville 24. In round two, the Eagles dropped a close battle with Canastota, 48-42.
Round three brought on host Central Valley, which came in ranked No. 4 in Division II by New York Wrestling News. The Thunder won, 54-18, en route to the team championship.
Next up was top-ranked Norwich and the Tornado won, 47-31.
The Eagles would get back on track in round five, defeating Mount Markham, 42-29.
Kellenberg downed SVEC, 48-36, in round six. Following a bye, the Eagles dropped another tight one in the final round, 38-33 to Lowville.
The Eagles suffered some injuries throughout the tournament, making it difficult to fill all of the weight classes.
SVEC's top wrestler during the tournament was Mark Mullen, who went 7-0 and received the team's Most Outstanding Wrestling award. Also performing well were Parker Sexton and Alex Morse, both going 6-1. Ousmane Duncanson finished the weekend with a 5-2 mark and Dell Davis went 4-2.
Mullen improved to 9-1 on the season, his only loss an injury default in the finals of the Cluyde Cole Invitational the previous week. Sexton improved to 10-2 and Morse to 9-2. Davis is now 8-3 and Duncanson is 8-4.
SVEC opens the IAC Division I dual meet season Thursday, hosting Newark Valley at 7 p.m., then competes in the Dandy Duals Saturday in Towanda, Pennsylvania.
