TIOGA COUNTY The Owego boys rebounded from a season-low score in Mondays loss to Vestal to a season-high 2685 as it defeated Horseheads, 4-1, at Owego Bowl Wednesday.
The match marked the return of anchor Qwinten Adams, who made his season debut with a 623 series and 214 high game. He also had a 210 and started his season with a 199.
Gabe Avery had a match-high 224 game and a 527 series while Cole Dalton rolled a 572 series and a high game of 204. Tyler Taft added a 214-522, and Quinton Hollister and Levi Stanton added 182 and 104, respectively.
Owego won the first two games, 908-756 and 927-841, and the total pinfall, 2685-2503.
The Indians varsity is now 2-1 in matches and has a total win-loss record of 8-7.
I was proud of the way that the boys responded tonight after we struggled on Monday, Owego coach Chris Schmidt said. The return of our anchor, Qwinten Adams, really gave us a boost. Looking forward to seeing how this team continues to improve going forward.
Horseheads was led by Colby Woolever-Frost with a 235-600.
Horseheads won, 5-0. The game scores were 744-571, 736-530 and 730-569, and the Blue Raiders took the total pinfall, 2210-1670.
Abby Shirley led the Indians with a team-high 163 game and team-high 435 series, and Hayley Classen added a 145-407. Also contributing were Victoria Reigle, Summer Elliott and Lillie Carrigan-Bauer with series of 309, 261and 258, respectively.
Pacing Horseheads was Abbey Marshall with a 201-564.
The boys varsity lost a close match with the Devils taking the total painful by less than 100 pins, 2882-1783. The Indians dropped games two and three by 13 pins and five pins, respectively. Game scores were 643-562, 621-608 and 618-613.
Owego was led by Nathan Travis with a 157-444 and 7th-grader William Waldron a 183-440. Hunter Harbst added a140-395.
In the girls match, Horseheads won 549-328, 519-336 and 536-309, and took the total pinfall, 1604-973.
Haley Stephens posted a 112 high game and a 289 series and Maylee Henning had a 114 high game.
The next match is Monday at Ideal Lanes in Endicott against Maine-Endwell.
