COLLEGE CROWD: OWEGO GRADS TOMPKINS, SMETANA RUN FOR BCC (2018-11-15)

Avery Tompkins, a sophomore at Broome Community College, placed 80th at the NJCAA Division III National Championships at Stanley Park here Nov. 3.
Tompkins, the Hornets' lone entrant in the race, posted a season-best time of 25:01.04 over the 5K course. It was her second-fastest time overall for BCC, having recorded a 23:44.4 at the 2017 national championships.
She placed 7th (27:55.2) at the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championships and 18th (27:04) at the NJCAA Division III Regional Championships.
Freshman teammate
Michelle Smetana, also an Owego grad, competed it two meets for BCC and posted a personal best 26:39.4 to place 26th at the Delhi Bronco Classic.
