COLLEGE CROWD: OWEGO GRAD PHELPS NAMED ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (2018-11-06)

Mitchell Phelps, an Owego grad, has received State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Mens Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 27.
Phelps opened the 2018-19 season with three strong performances against NCAA Division I Canisius Oct. 1. He won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.23, took second in the 100 backstroke in a time of 54.39 and swam a leg of 200 medley relay, which also placed second (1:38.03). Canisius won the meet, 149-94.
On Saturday, Phelps posted a pair of victories and finished second twice as the Knights defeated Grove City, 191-102, and Fredonia, 237-54.
He won the 100 fly and 200 fly with times of 51.52 seconds and 1:57.98, respectively. Phelps was also second in the 200 back (1:57.12) and 200 medley relay (1:37.73).
Geneseo hosts Cortland Saturday.
