IAC GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: NV'S SILBA WINS, LEADS TEAM TO 2ND AT IAC MEET (2018-10-26)

MARATHON - Newark Valley's Marissa Silba won the individual title while Notre Dame captured team honors at the IAC Girls Cross Country Championships here Friday.

The Crusaders scored 50 points to second place NV's 61 while Waverly and Lansing scored 73 points apiece with the Wolverines winning the tie-breaker for third place.

Silba navigated the course in 20:08.4, almost 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Emily Miller of Dryden (20:22). Teammates Sophie Stewart and Renee Riegel finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with times of 21:15.3 and 21:23. Kristina Knight placed 24th in 22:28.5 and Colleen Riegel rounded out the Cardinals' scoring, taking 37th with a time of 23:28.9. Rosie Hines placed 46th with a 24:48.5 and Charlotte Dunn was 59th in 28.40.

Waverly freshman Olivia Nittinger led the Wolverine effort, placing sixth in 21 minutes flat. Paige Ackley finished 10th with a 21:23.5, Sheridan Talada was 22nd in 22:15.1, Elizabeth Fritzen took 28th, clocking 22:42.1, and Brandi Welch was 29th with a 22:44.4 to cap the team scoring. Reagan Vaughn placed 36th in 23:27.8 and Zayta Hall was 50th with a 25:59.1

SVEC ended up eighth out of nine scoring teams with 181 points as Jenna O'connell led the way in 39th place, timing in at 23:58.3. Erin Bruttomesso posted a time of 24:20.8 to take 41st, Mya Marsh was 45th in 24:42.5, Delaney Fatcheric crossed the finish line 56th with a 27:28.3 and Saudra Horackova took 57th in 27:29.1

Tioga had an incomplete team and was led by Cameron Mushock, who finished 33rd with a time of 23:18.6. Mariah Nichols placed 61st in 29:19.4 and Kate Burrowes finished 64th in 31:06.2.
