IAC BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: NV'S SHERWOOD PLACES THIRD, TEAM FOURTH AT IAC MEET (2018-10-26)

Tioga County Sports Report
MARATHON — Newark Valley freshman standout Jonny Sherwood finished third at the IAC Boys Cross Country Championships here Friday, leading the Cardinals to a fourth-place team showing.

Trumansburg placed four runners in the top 20, scoring 67 points to 91 for runner-up Watkins Glen, which boasted the individual champion in Gabe Planty. Waverly missed out on second place by one point, but ahead of Newark Valley, which was fourth with 110. SVEC was 13th with 285 and Tioga took 14th with 316.

Sherwood paced NV with a time of 17:49.5. Connor Yetter was 11th, clocking 18:41, Mark Vosburgh was 25th with a 19:37.8, Hartenstine finished 32nd in a time of 19:58.1 and Noah Waterman wrapped up the team scoring in 39th, timing in at 20:25.5. Patrick Bishop placed 42nd in 20:34.6 and Jake Ludwig was 50th with a 20:50.8.

Collin Wright was fourth and posted a time of 18:01.2, trailing only Planty, T-burg's Aiden Begeal and Sherwood. Rounding out the Wolverines’ scoring were Nate Ackley in 13th with a time of 18:55.6, Kaden Wheeler, 21st with a 19:14, Brandon Bubniak, 26th in 19:38.2, and Liam Traub, 28th with a 19:40.9. Matt Atanasoff finished 41st with a time of 20:31.6
and Jayden Rose took 48th in 20:48.2.

SVEC was without top runner Calum Avery, so Levi Mickelson set the pace, placing 33rd with a time of 20:05.1. Ryan Hodges finished 38th in 20:21.5, Ben Dizer was 61st with a 21:33.8, Zach Watson was 75th in 23:11.3 and Issac Lindridge was the final scorer, placing 78th with a 23:33.9. Bryce Mills came in 81st with a 24:04.3.

Ty Middendorf led Tioga, placing 29th with a time of 19:41.5, Mason Card was 59th with a 21:29, Kyle Earley took 71st in 22:42.7, Nathan Jaye placed 72nd with a 22:47.6 and Alex Middendorf was 85th in 25:13.7. Also competing was Zach Nichols, who was 89th with a time of 28:05.7.
