Tioga County Sports Report
NEWARK VALLEY - There was an impressive group among the top 10 runners crossing the finish line at the Newark Valley / Bob Green Invitational here Friday. M-E's Parker Stokes set a course record. Owego's top two competitors finished 6-7 to help the Indians win the team title. And the host school's standout was the only freshman to place in the top 33.

The Cardinals' Jonny Sherwood finished a strong eighth with a time of 17:25.4. Meanwhile, Stokes would rewrite the record book, posting a time of 16:01 flat despite the muddy, sloppy conditions of the course - the runner-up was more than 40 seconds behind.

Owego seniors Nate Bowers and Cameron Szabo clocked 17:06.9 and 17:15, to lead the team to another victory. The Indians scored 102 points, besting Montrose, Pennsylvania by 16.

The Indians' other scoring runners were Gavin Watkins, 18th (18:06.4); Lewis Race, 32nd, (18:28.1); and Eaan Hackett, 39th (18:42.9).

No team score was posted for SVEC, but the Eagles were led by Calum Avery, who took 21st with a time of 18:09.6. Also scoring were Levi Mickelson, 105th (19:54.5); Ryan Hodges, 138th (20:42.); Ben Dizer, 154th (21:22); and Zach Watson, 174th (22:18.7).

Also competing from local teams were Owego's Joel Choynowski, 51st (18:56.6); Ryan Johnson, 79th (19:26.3); Derek Sarrge, 85th (19:37); and Luke Maslin, 89th (19:41.5); NV's Patrick Bishop, 141st (20:43.4; and Noah Waterman, 172nd (22:14.4); and SVEC's Isaac Lindridge, 179th (22:57.5); Bryce Mills, 190th (24:09.5); and Luke Simonton, 199th (28:35.1).

This year marked the first time the race has been run since the passing of legendary NV track and cross country coach Bob Greene who passed away Oct. 1.
