IAC VOLLEYBALL: CANDOR SWEEPS TIOGA; ONE WIN AWAY FROM DIVISION TITLE (24 PHOTOS) (2018-10-12)

CANDOR - Candor is just one win league win away from putting an end to Tioga's five-year reign atop the IAC South Small School Division after sweeping the Lady Tigers here Friday night in volleyball action.

The Lady Indians are now 13-0, while Tioga falls to 12-2. With the sweep of the season series, Candor has the tiebreaker in hand, so needs to win just one of its final three matches (O-M, Newark Valley, and Watkins Glen) next week to clinch the division title.

Unlike the first meeting, which Candor won in five competitive sets, the Lady Indians dominated the first and third sets, winning by scores of 25-12 and 25-12. In between, they pulled out a 26-24 decision.

Braelyn Hornick led Candor with 13 service points, including four aces, 18 setter assists, five kills, and four digs, while Jennah Kareem had six points (three aces), 10 kills, one block, and four digs, Shelby Swartz added six points (two aces), five kills, and three digs, and Kailyn Edwards chipped in with eight assists.

Sarah Showerman had four points and Arianna Aman had three points in the win, while Megan Henry registered nine kills, and Kori Strong had three kills.

Kylee Ingersoll led Tioga with seven points, including two aces, while Giovanna Rossi had five points, including two aces, seven kills and seven digs, and Madison Macumber had three points, four digs, and three assists.

Chloe Bellis had two points, six assists, four kills, and seven digs for the Lady Tigers, while Katelyn Perry added five digs and four assists, and Bri Rossi chipped in with six digs.

Tioga returns to action Monday in a non-league tilt at Sayre, while Candor travels to O-M.

JV: Tioga dropped the first set, but rallied for a 2-1 win over Candor. The Lady Indians won the first set 25-20, but the Lady Tigers pulled out a 27-25 decision in the second set, and closed out the match with a 25-20 win.

Emma Hall led Tioga with 20 points, eight kills, and seven assists, while Julia Bellis added nine points, five kills, and 12 digs, Kindra Wessels had for points, three kills, 10 assists, and 15 digs, Milly Bombard had four points, 11 digs, and nine assists, Mercedes Allen added three points and seven digs, and Austyn Vance chipped in with eight digs.
