Tioga County Sports ReportWAVERLY - Waverly fought off a pesky Newark Valley in the second and third sets to post a 3-0 win here Tuesday night in IAC South Large School volleyball action.
The Lady Wolverines used lengthy service runs by Jordan Mente and Adrianah Clinton in the first set to record a 25-10 win.
Mente put together another lengthy run late in the second set to help Waverly to a 25-16 win.
The two teams battled evenly throughout the third set with the Lady Wolverines pulling out a 25-23 decision to complete the sweep.
Maddy Hartenstein led Newark Valley with 11 setter assists and three service points, while Allie Wandell registered seven kills and 11 digs, Kayla Malarkey had four points, Chelsie Fuller recorded four kills, and Jordan Stiffarm added three points.
Mente led Waverly with 14 points, including nine aces, and four kills, while Clinton had seven points, including four aces, and four kills, Maddy Goodwin added five points, Sydney Meyers registered five kills, Chloe Croft recorded 16 setter assists and five digs, and Siera Kirk chipped in with 10 digs.
Waverly, now 7-4, hosts O-M Wednesday night, while Newark Valley (5-7) travels to Edison Thursday.
