WAVERLY - SVEC raced out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-2 win over Waverly here Friday afternoon in IAC South Large School boys soccer action on the high school field.

"The boys played really well tonight," said Waverly coach Eric Ryck.

"We were a little flat-footed and off our game in the first half, but came out in the second half with a lot of energy and fought their way back," he noted. :We gave up a couple unfortunate goals in the second half, an own-goal and a penalty kick that resulted in a goal, but this game sums up this team's season.  

"The boys have fought hard every game, they never give up, and they have improved every game," added Ryck. "Our record doesn't show it, but in my mind this season was a huge win for this program. I'm very excited for the future."

Eli Reese scored in the 15th minute to give SVEC a 1-0 lead, and Alex Doucett made it 2-0 with a goal in the 29th minute.

A Waverly miscue in the 45th minute resulted in an own-goal that gave SVEC a 3-0 lead.

Just a minute later, freshman Cameron McIsaac, who moved to the field after recording 10 saves in net for the Wolverines in the first half, scored his first varsity goal to trim the deficit to 3-2.

Junior Rylan Laforest scored in the 64th minute to close the gap to 3-2, but Doucett put the game away with his second goal with less than two minutes remaining.

SVEC had a 27-5 advantage in shots-on-goals, and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Nate Ryck recorded 13 saves for Waverly in the second half, while Brayden Krebs had three saves in the game for SVEC.

Waverly wraps up its 2018 campaign with a 1-11 record, while SVEC finishes off the regular season at 8-7.
