YOUTH FOOTBALL: SHOWDOWNS SET STAGE FOR WEEK 5 (2018-09-21)

TIOGA COUNTY  - Some big games are on the horizon as the 2018 Southern Tier Youth Football Conference season has surpassed the midway point. With Week 4 of 7 now in the books, Week 5 is shaping up with some good clashes on the card.

Spencer-Van Etten / Candor travels to Odessa to face Schuyler County on Sunday with first place the prize in two of the three games.

Owego hosts Tioga on Saturday. The winner in two of the games keeps its playoff hopes alive. In other games, Apalachin hosts M-E Blue and Newark Valley hosts Vestal, all on Sunday.

Schuyler County (4-0) leads the "A" division West A and SVEC is 3-0. Owego is 2-1 and Tioga is 2-2. Meanwhile, Newark Valley sits above the West B at 3-1, Apalachin is 1-3, and Vestal-1 is 0-4. M-E Blue has no team.

In the "B" division, SVEC sits atop the West A heap at 4-0. Schuyler County, Owego and Tioga are 2-2. In the West B, Vestal-1 is 2-2, Apalachin is 1-3, and NV and M-E Blue are 0-4.

In the "C" division, Schuyler County is 4-0 in the West A with a meeting against SVEC (3-1) looming. Owego is 2-2 and Tioga is 0-4. M-E Blue leads the West B at 3-1 while Apalachin, NV and Vestal-1 are 1-3.

At the East end of the STYFC, in the the "A" division, Windsor (East A) and U-E (East B) lead with 3-1 records. In the "B" division, Susquehanna (Pa.) is 4-0 in the East A while Chenango Forks-1, U-E, Johnson City and Chenango Valley are all 3-1 in the East B. Chenango Forks-1 (East A) and Chenango Forks-2 (East B) are 4-0 in the "C" division.

"B" division
Tioga 37, Apalachin 6
Gavin Albright ran for a 45-yard touchdown and Declan McKee scored the extra point. Albright then ran one in from the five. The extra point try failed.

McKee would score on a 15-yard run and Russell ran in the 2-point conversion.

Dylan Brayden would put the Raiders on the scoreboard with a TD, but the extra point attempt was no good.

The Tigers' Landon Williams scored on a 3-yard touchdown with McKee adding the 2-point conversion.

Tioga closed out the scoring on a 50-yard Eli Bellis run and Aiden Donnley extra point.

The first play of the game was a Newark Valley fumble forced by Wesley McNick and recovered by Dominic Palmer.

Gavin Albrecht scored on a  20-yard run an the extra point attempt failed. Albrecht scored again, this one from 44 yards out, and Gage Hopkins scored the two-point conversion.

Declan McKee scored on an 18-yard run, then caught a 5-yard pass for the 2-point conversion, bringing the score to 22-0 at the half.

Eli Bellis scored on a 45-yard run and Aiden Donnley got the extra point. Bellis scored a 16-yard TD and Donnley added the extra point, making it 36-0.
