STAC GIRLS TENNIS: OWEGO NEARLY UPSETS NORWICH (2018-09-19)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO - Owego came close to knocking off Norwich here Wednesday afternoon, but came away on the short side of a 4-3 decision.
Lauren Angelone and Amy Huang picked up their sixth victories of the season, each improving to 6-2. Angelone defeated Ava Granquist at third singles, 6-2, 6-2, and Huang bested Parker Walsh, 6-3, 6-4, at fourth singles.
The Indians' Ella Kopalek is also 6-2, dropping a 7-5, 6-1, match to Katie Gawronski at second singles.
Owego's other win came from the second doubles duo of Larissa Fisher and Alina Chicas, who beat Hannah Baker and Hailey Colabelli ,6-1, 6-1
At first singles, the Purple Tornado's Lucie Martin downed Kayla Hankey, 6-1, 6-2. Norwich's Riley Marsh and Natalie Bennati topped Annamae Joyce and Rachel Raftis, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 at first doubles, and Logan Fredenburg and Erica Gage dropped Julie Selover and Julianna Hessberger, 6-4, 6-3, at third doubles.
Norwich improves to 6-1. Owego (4-4 overall, 2-2 Metro) is back in action today at Johnson City. The Indians won their previous meeting on Aug. 30, 6-1.
