IAC GIRLS SOCCER: ALLEN, BRUEHWILER POWER SVEC TO 11-2 WIN OVER TIOGA (13 PHOTOS) (2018-09-17)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA CENTER - Searra Allen and Ava Bruehwiler scored three goals apiece in the first half to pace SVEC to an 11-2 win over Tioga in IAC girls soccer action here on a rainy Monday afternoon.

Tioga coach Jim Walsh said his team played better this time around against the Lady Eagles, who won the first meeting of the season 11 days ago, 10-0.

"Prior to the game, we briefly discussed that our goal was to play teams we faced a second time better than the first time.

""While we ended up with a similar score, we did play SVEC better," said Walsh. "We kept them off the scoreboard for a much longer period of time in the first half, and we got on the scoreboard in the second half.

"The only big let down we had was coming out of halftime when SVEC scored a flurry of goals," he added.

Allen opened the scoring six minutes into the game. Ten minutes later, Bruehwiler scored a pair of goals 27 seconds apart to give the Lady Eagles a 3-0 lead.

Allen made it 4-0 with 13 minutes remaining in the first half, then Bruehwiler and Allen scored 31 seconds apart to make it 6-0 with 4:38 left in the half.

Allen scored her fourth goal of the game about two minutes into the second half, then assisted on a goal by Leah O'Connell a minute later to extend the lead to 8-0.

Madelynn Pasto and O'Connell added goals in the next three minutes to 10-0 with 33:10 left in the contest.

Junior Mackenzie Macumber broke up the shutout with 7:21 remaining in the contest, and sophomore Rachel Feeko scored her first varsity goal four minutes later. In between, Carolynne Horstmann tallied SVEC final goal of the game.

Hannah Harmon was credited with two saves for SVEC, while Allen and Bruehwiler each had one save.

Walsh pointed out the play of two Lady Tigers in the game.

"I have been waiting for Mackenzie Macumber to have a break out game this year and tonight she finally had it," he said. "She flew all over the field tonight resulting in he first goal of the season and a near miss in the first half.

"Cassie Birney also played well defensively the entire game, something we discussed in practice this week," added Walsh.

SVEC had a 27-6 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Eve Wood had five saves in net in the first half for the Lady Tigers, and freshman Abagail Foley added three in the second half. SVEC keeper Savannah Tuttle had one save.

Tioga, now 0-7, hosts Watkins Glen Tuesday, while SVEC (3-4) returns to action Friday when it hosts Watkins Glen.
