IAC VOLLEYBALL: CANDOR CAPTURES TIOGA TOURNAMENT TITLE (2018-09-16)
Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER - Candor captured the Tioga Tournament championship here Saturday, defeating arch-rival Tioga in the title match.
The Indians defeated Waverly in the quarterfinals, 25-23. Next up was Oneonta in the semis, and Candor won, 25-19. The Indians then moved on to best the host Tigers, 25-16.
Tioga topped Edison in the quarters, 25-15, and Oneonta beat Chenango Valley in the quarterfinals, 25-16. The Tigers received a bye in the semis.
Pool play
Court 1
Tioga went 6-2 and won the pool, defeating Dryden, 25-17, 25-18; and Candor, 25-22, 25-23; and splitting with Trumansburg, 25-17, 20-25; and Newark Valley, 25-27, 25-22.
Candor was second and went 5-3, downing Dryden, 25-11, 25-18; and T-burg, 25-22, 25-22; and splitting with Newark Valley, 23-25, 25-21.
Newark Valley took fourth, going 4-4 while besting Dryden, 25-21, 25-23; and falling to T-burg, 25-15, 25-23.
T-burg went 5-3 to place third and Dryden was 0-8.
Court 2
Waverly won the pool with a 7-1 mark. The Wolverines defeated Watkins Glen, 25-18, 25-19; Sayre, 25-23, 25-14; and Spencer-Van Etten, 25-16, 25-16; and split with Oneonta, 15-25, 25-20.
Sayre was third at 3-5, splitting with Watkins, 25-15, 25-27; S-VE, 24-26, 25-18; and Oneonta, 19-25, 25-22.
S-VE also went 3-5 and ended up fourth. The Panthers beat Watkins Glen, 25-23, 25-11; and lost to Oneonta, 25-11, 25-19.
Oneonta went 6-2 to finish second and Watkins Glen was 1-7.
Court 3
Chenango Valley won the pool with a 7-1 record. Edison was second at 6-2. Lansing went 4-4, Union Springs was 3-5 and Seton Catholic was 0-8.
