YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO (BEYER) DROPS 2-1 BATTLE TO NICHOLS-TIOGA AT OWEGO LITTLE LEAGUE 12U TOURNAMENT (2019-07-11)

OWEGO — Owego (Beyer) ran into a formidable pitcher during C Division bracket play at the Owego Little League 12U Tournament here Thursday. Nichols-Tioga (Luther's) Garrett Godfrey fired a two-hitter, striking out 15 batters to lead his team to a 2-1 victory. 

Owego would actually grab the early lead in the top of the first inning when Adam Llewellyn walked, advanced on pair of passed balls and eventually scored. 

N-T, which stranded Brennan Sindoni at third in the first following a triple and James Luther at second after a base hit in the second, finally found its way around the bases in the fourth. Shea Bailey singled and scored and Eli Barnes walked and scored. Godfrey, Nick Slater and Zac Mumbulo all hit safely.

In the fifth, Nichols-Tioga had a chance to extend the lead after Jack Bombard singled and Sindoni walked, but both players were stranded in scoring position.

Llewellyn and Chris Ward had Owego's hits while Llewellyn, Jamie Harrison, Ty Lewis and Matt Lewis reached base via walks.

Bombard went 2-for-3 to lead N-T's nine-hit effort. Sindoni, Bailey, Godfrey, Luther, Slater, Mumbulo and Taliah Speer contributed one hit apiece.

Owego takes on Ithaca (Walder) Friday at 7:45 p.m. on Beuter Field. 

Nichols-Tioga meets Union-Endicott (Ferraro) at 10:45 a.m. Saturday on Cheresnowsky Field.
