YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO (BEYER) PULLS AWAY FROM LANSING IN OWEGO LITTLE LEAGUE 12U TOURNAMENT BRACKET PLAY (13 PHOTOS) (2019-07-08)

OWEGO — Sam Sherwood and Zach Hammond combined to strike out 12 batters as Owego (Beyer) defeated Lansing (Axelson), 12-5, in Owego Little League 12U Tournament B Division bracket play Monday evening.

Sherwood paced the team at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, three runs and an RBI. Noah Christ tallied three times as well while going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Adam Llewellyn went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI; Tyler Lewis had a run and RBI; Sam Beyer had three walks and a run; Parker Jenkins went 1-2 with two walks, a run and two RBI; Devin Card was 1-for-1 with an RBI; Jamie Harrison drove in a run; Hammond added a run; and Chris Ward contributed a hit and a run.

Lansing pitchers surrendered eight hits and 13 walks.

Sherwood and Beyer got the scoring started in the second inning, Christ scored in the third and Jenkins tallied in the fourth as Owego carried a 4-2 advantage into the fifth.

Runs by Ward, Christ and Sherwood pushed the lead to 7-2. 

In the sixth, Owego built a 12-2 cushion as Hammond, Christ, Llewellyn, Tyler Lewis and Sherwood all found their way around the base paths.

Owego takes on Nichols-Tioga (Luther) at 7:45 p.m. Thursday on Beauter Field.
