YOUTH BASEBALL: CANDOR FENDS OFF U-E IN OWEGO LTTLE LEAGUE 10U TOURNAMENT BRACKET ACTION (12 PHOTOS) (2019-07-08)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Candor (Rose) scored 45 runs during Owego Little League 10U Tournament pool play. That 15-runs-per-game average came in handy as they defeated U-E (Schrader), 15-12, in C1 Division bracket play Monday evening.

"We scored 10 runs in the first inning and then our bats cooled down a little bit," Candor coach Cody Rose said. "We got some runs throughout the game to keep us ahead the whole game."

U-E's 12 runs matched the total number of runs Candor allowed in pool play.

"I was trying to save our top two pitchers for next game against Chenango Forks (Curtis)," Rose said. "We snuck by, but it's good to get these types of games out of your system."

Mason Rose pitched four strong innings to keep Candor ahead the entire game and struck out 12 in the process.

"He got himself into some jams with bases loaded and getting out with  little damage," coach Rose said. "For an 8-year-old in that situation, I think he did very well."

Kyle Jantz went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI for Candor. Donnie Mackie was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs as well. Brody Ahart contributed a homer to the cause.

Candor gets an opportunity to avenge a 9-8 pool play loss to Chenango Forks (Curtis) when the two meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Franz Field.
