OWEGO — Owego (Gregory) rode some big innings to a 12-3 victory over U-E (Ciotoli) in Owego Little League 10U Tournament pool play action Saturday.
Owego gave up a run on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning, then took control in its half with a four-run outburst. Brenden Whigham and Cayden Smith highlighted the burst with a triple and double, respectively.
The locals pushed their lead to 7-1 in the second on the strength of singles by Hayden Blenco, Rocco Canfield, Camden Thole and Smith.
U-E chipped into the lead, scoring twice in the third on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch.
That would be it as U-E managed just two hits the rest of the way.
Owego added a run in the third to make it 8-3, then racked up four insurance runs in the fifth. Canfield drove in two runs, and Ryan Diedrich and Nolan Card plated one apiece.
Canfield finished the game 3-for-3 with a run and three RBI, and Smith was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.
Whigham contributed a hit, run and two RBI; Thole and Diedrich had a hit, run and RBI apiece; Blenco had a hit and two runs; Sam Buchsbaum had a run and RBI; Dylan Gregory chipped in with two runs and an RBI; Card added a run and RBI; and Beckett Tirinato had a run.
Card and Gregory teamed up to pitch a five-hitter. Card gave up three runs on three hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out eight. Gregory struck out four in three innings, allowing two hits and one walk.
