YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO-GREGORY GOES 2-1 IN FINAL WEEK OF M-E 10U TOURNAMENT (2019-06-27)

ENDICOTT — Owego-Gregory went 2-1 in a four-day stretch at the Maine-Endwell 10U Tournament.

Owego defeated U-E 10C Sunday, 12-9, and Vestal 10C Monday, 18-5, before falling to Nichols-Tioga Wednesday, 10-0.

Owego rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Hayden Blenco paced a 15-hit effort, going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Brendan Whigham was 2-for-2 with a triple, double, three runs and two RBI; Camden Thole went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI; Ryan Diedrich went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI; and Jeremiah Wheeler was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Sam Buchsbaum contributed a hit, run and RBI; Elijah Wheeler, Dylan Gregory and Rocco Canfield had one hit and one run apiece, and Cayden Smith added a run.

Elijah Wheeler gave up five runs (three earned) in three innings on three hits, striking out six and walking five. Canfield threw one inning, allowing four runs (only one earned), walking three and striking out three without giving up a hit. Nolan Card pitched one inning, fanning all three hitters.

Owego 18, Vestal 5
Owego chalked up nine runs in the top of the first, led 13-5 after two and ended the game with a five-run fourth.

Elijah Wheeler went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI; and Thole was 2-for-3 with two runs. Card was 1-for-2 with a grand slam, two runs and four RBI; Buchsbaum was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI; Gregory went 1-for-1 with three runs and an RBI; Whigham was 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI; Jeremiah Wheeler went 1-for-3 with a run and Diedrich had two runs and an RBI.

On the mound, Canfield scattered five hits over two innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Gregory hurled two innings of no-hit ball, fanning three and walking three.

Nichols-Tioga 10, Owego 0
Owego's tournament ended with the one-hit loss in four innings.

Buchsbaum had the team's lone hit in the second inning, but was stranded at third base.
