YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO 12U TEAM PICKS UP 2 IMPRESSIVE WINS IN M-E 'B' TOURNEY (22 PHOTOS) (2019-06-24)

ENDICOTT — Owego-Bensley posted a pair of impressive victories in the Maine-Endwell 12U B tournament at Struble Field here Saturday.

Owego started the day with a 5-0 shutout against Windsor, then capped it with a 13-3 mercy rule win in four innings against M-E.

Brendan Schofield fashioned a two-hit shutout, mowing down 11 Windsor batters in the process. He gave up three walks and only faced 23 batters.

Schofield helped his own cause at the plate, smacking a triple and a double as he went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Evan English went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in the third inning and finished the game with four RBI.

Mason Grippen went 2-for-3, Matt Higgins went 1-for-2 with two runs; while Dominick Ottaviani, Kam Wicklund and Jake Bensley all went 1-for-2.

Owego 13, M-E 3 (4 innings)
Owego struck early and often, and scored runs in bunches while pounding out 20 hits.

The team plated a trio of runs in the first inning, but only led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the second.

A six-run second gave Owego some breathing room and they put the game away with a four-run fourth.

Schofield doubled in the fourth while Higgins, English and Ottaviani added singles.

Nick Brown and Higgins highlighted the second-inning barrage with back-to-back doubles. Elijah Lewis, Zack Bensley, Schofield, English, Ottaviani and Grippen had singles.

In the fourth, Ottaviani smacked a double in the fourth, and Brown, Higgins, Schofield, English and Grippen contributed singles.

Higgins, Schofield, English and Ottaviani enjoyed 3-for-3 showings at the dish. English had three runs and two RBI, Schofield had two runs and two RBI, Higgins had two runs and one RBI, and Ottaviani drove in three runs.

Brown went 2-for-2 with two runs, Grippen went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Zack Bensley was 1-for-2 with a run and RBI, Lewis went 1-for-2 with a run, Wicklund was 1-for-1 with a run, Connor Kotski went 1-for-2, and Jake Bensley scored a run.

Lewis picked up the win on the mound, striking out six while giving up seven hits and three runs.

Owego plays again Monday against Binghamton at MacArthur Elementary School at 6 p.m.
