TAYLOR MADE: THANK YOU TCSR FOLLOWERS (2019-06-14)

With the exception of the spring All-Tioga County all-star teams, which will be published next week, the first scholastic coverage year for Tioga County Sports Report has come to a close.

As a one-person staff covering 20-plus varsity teams from Candor, Newark Valley, Owego and S-VE during each sports season, I attempted to cover at least a portion of as many home games as possible. At times it was exhausting, however, it was also a very rewarding experience.

I want to thank those individuals who were photo contributors — Amanda Bailey, Lisa Beach, Chela Bubniak, Cathy Doane, Tim Birney, Jim Danvers, Jeff Miller and Daniel Sutherlin (I apologize if I missed anyone).

Also deserving a thank you are the athletic staff members at each school who wee cooperative and worked with me to bring the readers up-to date sports coverage — athletic director, athletic secretaries, coaches, etc.

A special thank you goes out to the coaches who submitted their results to me in timely fashion following every game, win or lose. Some were spot on every time, some responded after a little coaching, but all in all the cooperation from the coaches was pretty good.

Of course, there were still several coaches out there who were not cooperative. In fact I would have had an easier time pulling teeth from a bear than I had in getting results from some coaches. Fortunately, there were only a few of you. I’m not going to get into a coach-bashing diatribe here, but will say I hope we can do a better job of communicating during the 2019-20 school year.

Recently, I wrote a Taylor Made dissing on the poor sportsmanship portrayed by adults at local sporting events. I had a couple of people express opinions that the shouldn’t have to keep quiet if a bad call was made by an official. Never did I say you shouldn’t be allowed to voice your displeasure at a bad call. I only noted that it should not be done in the immature fashion that is become far too common in the present era of high school athletics.

With that said, let me praise those fans who kept a level head, who cheered on your teams in a positive manner and who addressed bad calls in a mature fashion. Believe me, there were far more positive fans than negative fans in Tioga County this past school year.

If your curious what I will be covering during the off-season:

• Following the publication of the All-Tioga County all-star teams, I will begin recapping the highlights of the 2018-19 seasons for you. There were some good ones.

• I am going to attempt to cover summer youth sports programs, so if you’re child is involved in one, feel free to send me an e-mail at timtaylor@tiogacountysportsreport.com timtaylor2661@gmail.com.

• I would also like to do some feature stories on local college kids who are competing at the next level. If you are one, please contact me at the above email addresses.
