NEW YORK STATE GIRLS TRACK & FIELD: S-VE'S SQUIER COMPETES IN HIGH JUMP (2019-06-08)
BY TIM TAYLORTioga County Sports ReportMIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — S-VE’s Jenna Squier rode an impressive performance at the state qualifier into the NYSPHSAA Track & Field Championships. Unfortunately, the senior was unable to match that feat in Saturday’s Division II high jump competition.
Squier had no problem clearing the starting height of 4-10 in the hot sun, but was unsuccessful in her three attempts at five feet. She was able to get her upper body over the bar during the first two attempts, but appeared to clip it with her rear end both times. On the third attempt, it looked liked she made it, but the back of her left thigh grazed the bar and knocked it loose.
She would finish 10th in Division II.
S-VE girls track coach Dana Bennett took the disappointment hard as well.
“I’m speechless,†he said. “I’ve got nothing to say.â€
