MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — Newark Valley’s Kayla Malarkey made her debut at the NYSPHSAA Track & Field Championships here Friday and came away with a couple solid efforts in the Division II pentathlon.
Malarkey started the day with a solid effort in the 100 hurdles, posting a time of 17.55 seconds to place sixth in the event.
In her final event, the shot put, she had a heave of 8-57 meters. That was a fifth-place throw.
In between, she competed in the high jump and cleared the bar at 1.25 meters, finishing in 13th place.
She will head into today’s final two events, the long jump and 800, with 1,331 points and in seventh place.
