ENDICOTT — S-VE qualified a relay for the finals while Newark Valley’s Kayla Malarkey fared well in the first three events of the pentathlon at the Section IV Girls Track & Field State Qualifier at U-E High School’s Ty Cobb Stadium here Thursday.

The Panthers’ quartet of Ryleigh Clark, Cay Terrio, Madelynn Pasto and Jenna Squire ran a fifth-place time 51.27 seconds in the 4x100 relay preliminaries to qualify for the finals.

The first three events of the pentathlon were held on day one and Malarkey emerged as the Division II leader and third overall. She has 1,426 points and trails Ithaca’s Elinor Kops (1,690) and Vestal’s Megan Carden (1,677).

Malarkey took second in the 100 hurdles (17.52 seconds), third in the high jump (1.38 meters) and fourth in the shot put (7.95 meters). The long jump and 800 will be held today.

Following is how other local athletes fared.

CANDOR
Senior Leah O’Connell placed 18th in the 800 (2:32.52).

NEWARK VALLEY
Senior Sophie Stewart finished fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:09.33).

Senior Madison Sherwood placed 10th in the 200 (27.7).

Sophomore Maris Aylesworth took 15th in the long jump (15-4 1/2) and 18th in the 400 (1:04.55).

Sophomore Leah Williams was 17th in the long jump (14-5 1/2).

Eighth-grader Emma Miller was 21st in the 800 (2:35.36).

OWEGO
Junior Katie Shoen placed 14th in the 800 (2:30.41).

Senior Brittany Sanguinito took 17th in the 3,000 (12:00.82).

Eighth-grader Alex Senko finished 23rd in the 400 hurdles (1:18.8).

S-VE
Pasto placed 12th in the 200 (27.83).

The state qualifier concludes today at U-E, beginning at 5 p.m.
