STAC BOYS BASEBALL: SYMONS' WALK-OFF SINGLE LIFTS OWEGO PAST U-E (2019-05-17)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — A walk-off single by Jack Symons in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Owego to a 5-4 victory over U-E here Friday.
With the Indians trailing by two, base hits by Karson Tofte and Joey Higgins, an error on a bunt by Mason Rieg and a walk to Nate Bennett plated Tofte.
One out later, Higgins scored on a groundout to knot the score. With two away, Symons singled to center field to score Rieg.
The Tiger rode four straight singles to a 1-0 lead to start the game, but Owego countered in its half of the first inning as Rieg singled and scored.
Nick Prokop singled and scored on a Higgins base hit in the second to give the Indians a 2-1 edge.
U-E jumped on top, 4-2, in the sixth on the strength of two doubles and two singles.
Both teams collected 10 hits.
Prokop, Tofte and Higgins all went 2-for-3, and Symons was 2-for-4 to lead Owego at the plate. Ring went 1-for-3 and Daniel Schofield was 1-for-1.
Symons picked up the win, striking out two and giving up one hit in one inning.
