IAC GIRLS GOLF: NV, S-VE COMPETE IN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (17 PHOTOS) (2019-05-17)

Tioga County Sports Report
WAVERLY — Newark Valley and S-VE girls golfers endured a brief shower at the start of their round — and finished under sunny skies at the IAC Girls Golf Championships held at Tomasso’s Golf Course here Friday.

As expected, heavily-favored Waverly ran away with the championship, it’s fourth straight. The youthful Panthers finished fourth while NV competed with an incomplete team.

The Wolverines registered a 357 team score, posting the top five rounds of the day. Runner-up Moravia shot 494,  Lansing was third with a 503 and S-VE carded a 586.

NV had three golfers and Marathon brought two, so both teams were unable to factor into the team scoring. A minimum of four players are required for scoring purposes.

Hannah Clark led Newark Valley with a 128, shooting 66 on the front nine and 62 on the back. Victoria Mellem had a pair of 65s for a 130 total and Felicia Fiacco finished with 134 (65-69).

A tight, three-golfer grouping paced the S-VE contingent. Theresa Maki led the way with a 145 (73-72) while Annika Walle (75-71) and Sydney Myrick (80-66) tied at 146. Jennavieve VanGalder rounded out the team scoring with a 149 (74-75).

Ezraela Belanger (79-81) and Laurin Hastings (78-82) recorded non-scoring rounds of 160.

Led by Alex Tomasso’s IAC-record 81, the Wolverines cruised to a repeat as team champs. She shot 42 on the front nine and 39 on the back.

Gianna Pico was second with an 88 (42-46), Sidney Tomasso took third with a 90 (47-43) and Gabby Picco came in fourth at 98 (49-49).

The Wolverines’ Haley Kittle placed fifth with a 99 (50-49), although hers was a non-scoring  round.  Lauren Newman contributed a non-scoring round of 139 (71-68).

Moravia was led by Lindsey Smith’s 115 (57-58). Kayleigh VanSlyke had a 122, Katharina Scharmann a 125, Addison Moore a 132 and Marrisa Magill a non-scoring 155.

Hannah Lacko paced Lansing with a 114 (60-54). Amanda Baker added a 126, Zoe Ivery a 128, Kennedy Snyder a 135 and Olivia Larounis had a non-scoring 141.

For Marathon, Olivia Lisi shot 114 and Kate Anderson had a 127.

Next up is the Section IV championships Tuesday at Soaring Eagles Golf Course in Elmira.
