TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. — Marissa Silba and Sophie Stewart placed first and second, respectively, in the steeplechase to highlight Newark Valley’s opening day performance at the IAC Track & Field Championships here Thursday.

Silba completed the 2,000-meter race in 7:34.89 and Stewart clocked 7:38.5.

Kayla Malarkey was third in Large School and fifth overall in the 100 hurdles in 17.64 seconds.

Maris Aylesworth placed fourth in Large School and eight overall in the 400 in 1:04.55.

Madison Sherwood was fourth in Large School pole vault and fifth overall, clearing nine feet.

Victoria Geisenhof took fourth in the discus in Large School and sixth overall with a throw of 75-11.

Emma Miller finished sixth in the 1500 in Large School and seventh overall in 5:18.03.

The Cardinals’ 4x800 relay of Molly McCloskey, Miller, Silba and Stewart earned fifth overall and in Large School with a time of 10:41.94.

The 4x100 relay of Sherwood, Kathryn Simmons, Malarkey and Leah Williams placed third in Large School and sixth overall with a time of 53.7 seconds.

NV had several strong showing in the boys meet as well.

Lucas Frank was the top Large School shot putter with a toss of 44-4, which was also good for second overall.

Kyle Pratt ended up third in Large School and fifth overall in the shot put at 40-1.

Caden Bennett was second in large School and third overall in the 100, recording at time of 11.75 seconds. He was also fifth in Large School and sixth overall in the 400 at 53.85 seconds.

Jonny Sherwood placed third in Large School and overall in the steeplechase with a time of 10:18.63.

Mark Vosburgh was sixth in Large School and seventh overall in the steeplechase at 11:53.47.

Steve Cowulich took sixth in Large School and seventh overall in the 400 with a time of 54.31 seconds.

The 4x100 relay of Bennett, Dan Cowulich, Raidyn Ford and Micah Williams were second overall and in Large School in the preliminaries.

The Cardinals’ 4x800 relay of John Bolds, Aiden Cabrera, Seth Hartenstein and Sherwood placed fifth in Large School and ninth overall (no time listed).

The meet concludes today, starting at 4:45 p.m.
